The Short Vort
Good Morning!
Today is 29th day of Adar 5769 and March 25, 2009
Our Work- These are the Children
We say in the Haggadah with regard to what the Mitzrim did to us:
"Our labor," this refers to the "children," as it is said: "Every boy that is born, you shall throw into the river and every girl you shall keep alive."
Meaning, we thank Hashem for the fact that the ‘fruits of our labor’ namely our children whom the Mitzrim attempted to take from us were saved.
All of the commentaries on the Haggadah point out that the reason the Hebrew word “amaleinu” which means ‘our toil’ refers to our children, is because of the great effort which each and every parent puts into their children.
True ‘ameilus’ – true toil- is the proper term to explain the immeasurable effort expended by each and parent in the raising of their children.
The countless hours which each and every parent gladly puts it into their children to insure that they become good and solid Jews
Therefore when the Haggadah decided to innumerate the various tribulations which the Jews endured during their sojourn in
It is for children for which we toil and work. To guarantee the continuity of the Jewish people as a whole, for them we toil, for them we strive, and for them we sweat.
The intent of the Mitzrim was to make this effort fruitless.
Therefore, I end this Short Vort with an appeal. Not a financial one and one that really requires minimal effort; nevertheless, it is an appeal.
I appeal to all of you children out there, all of us who are descendents of your parents, to take the time before the Pesach begins and say thank you to your parents.
If you have your own children you have an idea of how much pain and exertion we put out for our children.
Before you sit down to eat the Matzah and Marror, make sure you tell them your parents two simple sincerely said words: “Thank you”.
By doing so you are doing the work of Hashem for you are indicating that all of the hard work and all of the straining and struggling which your parents put into you was all worth while!
